The general sad state of things
Here comes my first blog rant.
Why is it acceptable that some people are getting ruder?
And I know it's not just my imagination. I see it every day: people who don't take the three seconds or so to hold open a door for the person behind them, people in the service industry who never say thank you as they take your money, people who brush past or bump into you and don't apologize, people who swear at you because you catch them doing something they know is wrong or illegal and they are offended. Whatever happened to civilized people?
It annoys me greatly that some people seem to believe that they need not participate in daily activities that require a modicum of respect for me and themselves. Perhaps I'm asking for and expecting too much.
We all share the resources on this planet. And we know that everyone is equal, right? Maybe I'm mostly annoyed because this behaviour is so different from how I was raised. Life lessons are learned early, if they're learned. So I guess some people were not as fortunate as me. And that's a real shame. Maybe I'm dismayed at the wrong generation.
And that's something to think about.

I think it has something to do with the speed that the world (at least North America) is moving. There's also the issue that, in some cases, parents are not able to parent well - there are too many distractions and attractions.
I'm working hard to keep my kids saying please and thank you, though, as you noted on your blog about holding doors, and thinking of others, it's a hard hard message to get across to them. I must be some stupid though, because I keep trying anyway!
